Only a Mouse
A mouse in a house, well that is poetic for sure, but this little mouse was far from poetic, he was a little brown fur covered ball of mischief. His small black eyes were ever on the move to see what havoc he could raise.
He considered himself to be in his own house, and the Family, who also lived there with their cat, were to be driven out using whatever means available to him. Now as you know, a mouse is a very small animal and it is hard to see just how he could do this. But this little mouse had some cunning plans, and a very large ego. He thought he was invincible, and something like a Family and a cat would not be a problem to him. He watched the Family carefully before putting any plan into action. Firstly he must watch out for the cat. Not that it was a problem for him, as he knew every little hiding place that the cat could not get into. But he planned his routes carefully, as he had to cross open spaces across the rooms to get to his targets. Going from room to room was quite easy as the doors usually had enough room under them to slide through. Those that were more difficult to enter he had tunneled through to make his own entrances and exits. Again to small for the cat.
Having made all the areas he needed to be in easy and familiar, now was the time to start his plan to get this Family out of HIS house. He was now really ready, and plan number one was to make life hard for the two children that were part of the Family. They were aged three and five The little girl and the young boy. They had to be the first to frighten. It was easy, the mouse had found a white handkerchief on the floor, and he got under it and ran with it across the childrens room. He was delighted to hear them scream and shout for their Mummy. Of course he then shot down his hidden mouse hole, leaving the handkerchief there. The children said that they had seen a small ghost run across the room, which of course made Mummy laugh, and told them not to be so silly. This was a good first plan, and it had worked well. He would have to do this several more times to make mummy fed up with the same story from the children, and start making her angry. He was now rubbing his whiskers with delight.
Now he had no trouble in getting his food, as he used the cats dish to get any food she left. But he always made as much mess as he could by carrying the food all over the floor and treading it in the carpets. It was nice to hear the cat getting told off so much, as the Family thought it was him. The little mouse also let the cat see him on lots of occasions just by a closed door. As soon as the cat ran over to him, he would just pop under the door. The cat would then go wild and meowed and scratched the door to try to get him. But each time the cat was told off for ruining the paint on the door, and told off very sternly.
Eventually the cat was so confused and troublesome, the Family had to get rid of him. The mouse rolled about on his back laughing and was so pleased he was winning his house back slowly. With that plan done and now the children were to frightened to sleep in their bedroom, he felt that this was a good day.
Now the plan for the Mummy and Daddy. The mouse had found a telephone wire just under the floor boards. He had chewed through it carefully to expose the bare wires. As soon as the phone rang he would rush to the wires and with a dead matchstick in his mouth he would push the wires together as soon as the Mummy or Daddy answered it. This of course stopped the phone working, and annoyed them very much. The engineers that came to check the phone could find nothing wrong as the wires were now apart again and well hidden under the floor.
What a clever mouse. He found lots more ways to stop lights working and going to the desk in the study and taking letters and bills away down under the floor, so that they soon became in debt, as they never paid the bills he was stealing. So eventually they had to leave, and just could not understand why that house had been such a nightmare to live in. The mouse settled back in his bed and had the biggest smile that you had ever seen, he had HIS house back again!
