Bewilderment and Susceptible
The pace of life was progressing towards unknown destination. Margret’s ignorance was predominant and shadowed her line of thinking. Although her appearance painted a wrong picture as enterprising, yet she dwells in her own confusion. On her 27th birth day, she realised that Malcolm was slowly drifting away from her. It was her apparent view and her perception was vague. She has a lot of spare time to spend with friends. She frequently visited shopping malls. She did lot of fiction reading and got carried away by flimsy character and events. Her myopic approach and misunderstanding the situations, was in general, lead to unpleasantness among them.
On the contrary, Malcolm was an efficient doctor and a very popular among all hospital staff. Patient loved him. He ensured that they feel at home in the hospital. His convivial talk and smiling face put the entire patients at ease and in a comfortable position. However, his domestic life was much short of his expectation. They have a divergent frequency and different level of thinking. Hence it was difficult to reconcile even trivial issues.
As a married couple their life was interesting, intriguing and melancholy. Many years passed by and they were blessed with four children, two girls and two boys. They were grown adults and got married barring one child who remained a bachelor. The passage of their life did not transform into something extravaganza, yet smooth with minor hiccups. Malcolm could not enjoy her company on the social or literate level. The gap between their understandings widens considerable and beyond any possible patch. His casual drinking habit became regular eventually made him alcoholic.
His closest childhood friend meeting him regularly, and it was a great source of consolation for him. They discussed life in general and analysed objectively too. Malcolm’s conclusion was firm and realistic about women, in particular about his wife. Her reaction to his advances pitter-pattered on flimsy grounds, making his passion melted down. At times, it was a shower of love, affection and forceful hug and kisses. Instantaneously, his thoughts zoomed into her mind reasoning this must be her awakening. Alas, these moments were always short lived and unpredictable. He remembered Guy De Maupassant: “Women are really very strange, complicated and inexplicable being.” He also knew that the contrary is also true, that women are like a flower, delicate full of fragrance and attraction. They also possess dormant intelligence, which reflects the brilliance when explored. However, they’re susceptible and gullible too.
Malcolm thought that her association as a wife is important for a family. He did not want the stigma, “Broken family” attached to his family. He wanted a healthy relationship among his family members. He wanted the grand children to carry an image of love and happiness. He decided to give up drinking and reconciled to the fact that life must be lived in its fullness.
He decided to go on vocation with Margret. She felt very happy and excited about it. They went on a lonely trip to Asia. There was a sudden change of heart and mind for Margret. She said to Malcolm that she was guilty of being very immature on many occasions. Malcolm gently kissed her and said,” I love you immensely and feel proud that you gave birth to four lovely children”. He praised for her loving nature and kind heartedness. He also said that he is proud of her being his wife. The trip was concluded on a happy note. They returned home totally changed person. The environment in their home was very happy and full of love and affection.
