Do you use your social persona to say you are a successful artist? What does your social persona say about you?

Do You have the reputation that you are a nice person to work with? Or, is your reputation one that says you are a difficult artist to work with? The way you present your self in every situation can mean the difference in being successful or unsuccessful. You don’t have to have everyone fall totally in love with your or your creations, but it is important to have your viewers and other artists respect. you.

Here are some suggestions to remind you that manners are important!

1. You need to be friendly, speak to and introduce yourself to others, Such as at an exhibit or art festival, be friendly to those participating with you. You never know when you begin a conversation how you may be able to help someone. You may have more art festival experience than this person and can pass along important suggestions. This artist won’t forget you.

2. When another artist or promoter asks for help, be willing to pitch in, if you are unable to lend a hand, say so in a polite way, telling them why you won’t be able to assist them.

3. Always be honest, if someone asks you what medium you used to paint this picture, tell them. All artists are interested in where you buy your frames, where do you buy your paint? How is that art supply company to work with, are they helpful on the phone? Is your order shipped in a timely manner? Is it in good shape when it arrives at your studio?

4. Remember that others may not have a great social persona, maybe they left a bad situation at home, or some of their product was broken when they arrived at the festival, You just never know why someone is behaving the way they are. So, be careful that your conversation doesn’t offend.

5. Look everyone in the eye! To me this states that I am friendly, confident and ready to have a good show.

I invite you to http://ValleofYellowCreekArtStudioBlog.com, there are 97 art related posts there and a new mp3 to help move your business of art along.

The Entertainment Industry has been going through great changes in the last years evolving at a very fast and different pace. One of the differences could be entertainment for Latins. As Latinos grow in population, entertainment services are bringing Latin companies and artists together to provide mainstream organizations with “access” to this rising populations community. Hispanic Entertainment Services are now handling many services such as: event planning, dances, clubs, easier access to music, and huge venues put on by major corporations that are marketing directly to the Latino communities. This is especially happening in the U.S. where companies are trying to be those entertainment services that this population needs and wants.

Latin Entertainment and Music in High Demand

New York City a huge attraction for all populations and where strategic plans are already being put into place to attract and host high-profile Latin entertainment productions and events. The city is already creating, developing and producing concerts, festivals, product launches, meetings and all kinds of celebrity entertainment for both indoor and outdoor venues for Hispanics. And this is not just being reserved for the young, but for the old as well. Top notch entertainment companies are gearing towards all ages since the Hispanic community is and will be the most diverse minority in age. Outside of New York around the world, businesses are providing Latinos with musicians, band and dancers, great tasting Latin food, and even funny comedians.

What would be entertainment without music? Not much. This is the keystone to all Hispanic entertainment. Latino music dominates the charts in the world. The physical intimacy, hands on waist, eye contact between partners, and seductive movements is all part of the appeal and probably why it is complete domination of the music world. But within the culture you do not need to be a professional dancer of some fitness instructor. The only criteria is if you are looking to have a good time. The Hispanic artists in today’s society symbolize music, language, Spanish traditions that send a socially conscious message to enjoy life and appreciate your heritage. After all, Latinos have no problem socializing. as they are one of the most social cultures in the world.

Latin entertainment services want to create the event that Latinos need, the production they need and the buzz they need. The boundaries are limitless and no place where these Hispanic services won’t go. As companies continue to implement targeted Hispanic marketing strategies the Latin entertainment industry will only grow. Latins of all ages play a pivotal role in this as they are the customer. They are the ultimate influence on the Latin entertainment industry. For some Hispanics it may even be the life saving therapy that is guaranteed to provide a dance floor, great food, music, and a smile!

Dustin Mower invites you to receive more information about Latino products, services, discounts, latin entertainment, and news by visiting Latino Spain. Compare Latino websites specialize in carrying only the best products, services, and social networks for the Hispanic market online.

(A Chick Evens story out of Minnesota, based on fact, 1956)

The Icy-Mississippi

Snow is on the sidewalks, in the streets, a thin layer covering the Mississippi River, on top of four-inches of ice -the houses and buildings are all lit, fires glowing in hearths, furnaces burning, as I rush out into the cold early Saturday morning air to sell newspapers “Five Cents!” It is December, 1956 and I’m ten-years old, just turned ten-years old in October.

I see people sitting in their houses: men, women and children-as if their minds are unoccupied, its 6:00 a.m., some of the houses are covered with blotches of snow; some even appear to smile at me-with their shadowy silhouettes.

Some of the houses are completely dark, solid gray dark; I suppose the people haven’t crawled out of bed yet. In other houses I hear laughter as I walk down Jackson Street to the St. Paul, Pioneer Press Newspaper, to get my stack of papers to sell on the corner of Forth and Robert Streets. I even can see the icy-Mississippi from where I sand.

In the quiet morning cold, the houses seem to whisper to me-as if they have secrets to tell-but I’m too young to stop and listen, I’m not yet a hunter of tales. Plus, they can only tell me things I’m too young to fully understand.

I pass a dozen houses, two, then three dozen, now buildings, doors are now bursting open.

I start to yell “St. Paul Pioneer Press!…FIVE CENTS!”

Slow moving, and slow speaking people walk by. I think my business is the most interesting in town-but of course at ten-years old, who wouldn’t think so. There even seems to be a touch of romanticism in this paper business.

Artists! Now is the time to take charge of your craft. Today’s world is the perfect environment for creative people to prosper. The days of the huge corporations managing and distributing creative content are slowly dying out. Due to the advent of technology and the creation of the Internet, independent Artists have a pathway to show, distribute, promote, and sell their work to a global audience. Why should corporations e.g. record labels, film production companies, publishers, etc. etc. control the market anyway? Why should they get to decide what content is released? Creative people, the time is now! Here are five free things you need to be aware of, even if you are the weekend rock n’ roller, or the Sunday afternoon painter.

I. Building an online network – FREE

As an artist, I understand the personal battles artists go through within themselves. “I’m not an Artist. I’ve never been trained. I don’t have any talent. And how will anyone ever see anything I create?” I’ve said and heard them all, but that’s not up to us artists to decide. Before the computer revolution it was easy for artists to dismiss their own endeavors by saying, “I can’t compete with other artists with such little visibility e.g. films, records, books, etc, etc.” It was easier to accept that we have no talent, nor any platform to exhibit our work without incurring huge costs. That, however, was the past. Now with a personal computer and an Internet connection, anyone can build an online presence for free. Using free tools like Google profiles, one can create an online profile with email (sign up for gmail account). With the iGoogle setup one also has access to an entire set of office tools: word processors, spread sheets, calendars, managing contacts, and communication tools all for free. One can also link other sites to their Google profile. This establishes the framework for a network e.g. facebook, MySpace, YouTube, or any other free or paid sites. The important thing to know is by linking all of ones sites into a network, the higher their overall ratings will be in the search engines. Produce your art. That is your job. Let others judge the quality, while you bask in the pleasure of creation.

II. Show your Art – FREE

With the internet, artists can showcase their work to the entire global community. There are many free websites available for people to make personal websites. They may not give you as much user freedom as a paid site, but one can use that as a foundation to grow from. The total cost of a paid site is around $50 (domain fee $10, and the cost of the server provider $40/yr). Any artist can upload their work and get feedback from people all over the world. The best advice I can give is to exhibit your art through your personal network (as mentioned above). Then from the network one can branch out and place their art in new network communities e.g. online forums, music sites, etc. etc. The key is to have a root connection to your personal network (personal website). This insures the development of the artist’s independence and control of their content. The artist must make sure that he/she is benefiting from their work too.

III. Promote you Art – FREE

With the advent of social software like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. an artist can inform the community about new works that they have just completed. As a matter of fact, full marketing campaigns can be developed using social software to channel thousands of people to the artist’s content. The same thing is being done by marketers in corporations today, using the same software available to you. The only difference, and this is a HUGE difference, is that the artist doesn’t have to share any of the rewards with anyone else.

IV. Manage your network – FREE

The most difficult issue for any artist to tackle is to find people who can appreciate their work. So, how to tackle this immense task, especially on the scale of the ever-expanding Internet? Fortunately the answer has been solved by Google. There is fantastic a tool called Google Analytics, which can be added from your iGoogle account. This service is typically used in conjunction with a paid website e.g. your personal domain. Most free social sites have a built in number of views somewhere on their page. YouTube has a place under the insight tab that tells you who was watching your content, and where. Further, it will provide to you certain demographics like age and popularity. What valuable information! For knowing that people in Eastern France love your latest work allows you to tailor your promotion strategies effectively, saving time, energy and money.

V. Earn money – FREE

Finally artists can earn money to continue producing. In a nutshell, the artist places ads on their network (Google AdSense). When people click on the advertisement, the artist gets paid a commission. The important thing to understand, however, is that advertisements cannot be placed on just any site. Free sites usually have some restrictions, but if you have your own domain, which I highly suggest you get, Google AdSense is perfect. There are other similar services that may offer better deals. Another way to generate money, after your network experiences a decent flow of traffic, is by placing links or Ads for similar websites. The cost is all negotiable between you and the other party. For example, the artist who painted a picture of flowers might contact a local florist about placing a link to their site. Lastly there are sites where audiences can purchase your work for a price, usually it’s a profit sharing deal (iTunes, Amazon, etc).

Remember this! Traffic equates to money. The more traffic a site gets, the greater value the site is worth. Remember that art applies to the business world as well. Once a good understanding of online marketing is known, any artist can create business relationships that haven’t been developed yet; the internet is a virgin ground of opportunity. Now go produce your art.

Power to the Artists!

Jak Ahabdune is a supporter of the new age of technology and it’s impact to the common man. He is a frequent writer for companies that aspire to give business opportunities to anyone. One such company is 180 Films, an independent multi-media film company that specializes in promoting artists of all kinds.

The time is now to build your network and allow yourself the pleasure of being the one who produces your art.

Urban legends are a great way to lighten a party as an ice breaker. It is fascinating to see how people’s imaginations are engaged in high gear when these stories are told. Urban legends have interested writes for decades, and eventually these stories make their way into film, television, and other popular media.

1. Baby in the oven

A babysitter is hired to take care of an infant. The babysitter, sometimes mentioned as a hippie, under the influence of narcotics places the baby in either the conventional or microwave. The parents later returned to find the smell of burning flesh in their house. Finally, they traced the smell to the kitchen whereby inspecting the oven find their baby dead.

2. Crocodiles in the sewage

Originally from New York with its large sewage system which lends itself to the imagination. Here a baby alligator is given to a kid as a pet. As the reptile grows it becomes unwieldy and needs to be disposed. The animal is flushed down the toilet, but instead of dieing it manages to survive. Feeding mainly on rodents the gator grows to an astonishing size. Eventually, it seeks revenge on all those who fare into the sewage system.

3. Dial 911 in an emergency

Dialing for emergencies has been publicized as “call nine eleven.” Here a scared victim tries to call for assistance, but do to fear can not do so. The reason is the victim doesn’t seem to be able to find the button with the number eleven on the phone.

4. The $50 dollar sport scar

A man is required by court to sell his car as part of a divorce settlement. On completion of the sale, he is required to give half to his ex-wife. The irate divorcee sells his very expensive sports car, usually a Porsche or Jaguar, for 50 dollars. On completion of the sale and as required by court, he joyfully mails a check for 25 dollars to his ex-wife.

5. Home from the war

A young man returning from the war calls his family from a distant airport. He tells his mother that he is back and on his way. He wants to bring a fellow soldier to come and live with them. The soldier was completely crippled as a result of wounds sustained. The mother informs him that it would be very hard to take care of this person for the rest of his life and politely refuses. A few days later, the mother gets a call form an officer informing her that her son was found dead in a hotel room. Apparently, the son was the crippled soldiers all a long.

6. Flashing lights

A car drives a desolated highway and sees an upcoming car with the lights off. The concerned driver flashes his lights to let the upcoming vehicle of his error. The car passes by without turning the lights on. The car suddenly makes a turn and catches up to the car that flashed the lights. Upon forcing the car to stop, the offending driver shoots and kills the Good Samaritan. There is evidence to support that some gangs now use this method to initiate their members

7. Mouse in the soft drink bottle

One of the most well known urban legends, a man drinks a soft drink out of the bottle or sometimes a can. As he finishes the drink and much to his dismay, he realizes there is a rodent inside the container all along. There were actually several lawsuits in the 1930 proving that it could happen or at least that it can be faked.

8. The winning lottery ticket

A man at a bar watches the television intensely as the winning numbers of the state lottery are announce. Excited, he announces to his friends that he has the winning ticket. The ticket is passed from friend to friend, so that all can see the winning numbers. When the ticket is returned to the winner, he notices the numbers in the ticket have changed.

9. Dial revenge

A young man breaks up with his girlfriend and asks her to leave the apartment they both occupy. A few days latter the young man comes home to find his girlfriend thing gone and his untouched. He notices the telephone receiver off the hook. When he picks up, the astounded man hears the time been repeated over and over in Japanese. The angry ex had called the time service in Tokyo, and it had been off the hook for several hours.

10. The suicide rule

Many college students to this day still believe that if a roommate commits suicide, their grade point average will immediately be bumped to 4.0. However, there is no such rule documented anywhere in the regulations of any school nor there is evidence that ever was such a rule.

Whether based on reality or imagination urban legends focus on real fears. Perhaps, the interest might come from a primordial instinct of self preservation. At any rate, urban legends are fun and interesting tales to be told at parties or over a fire camp.

As children, many of us have daydreamed of what it must be like to be famous. I remember dreaming of being famous at everything, a singer, an actor, a dancer, an artist, a business owner (my first idea was to open a shop that specialized in nothing but greeting cards, tee-shirts, jewelry…). But as we get older and so-called reality slips in with all of its doubts and apprehensions, we lose our dreams of grandeur and settle for an okay life mainly guided by the needs, wants and dreams of others.

As we get into high school and college, becoming famous seems more like faded dream than any reality that we can possibly conjure up. Then we settle into compromising positions at a 9 to 5 and we think the only way we can become famous now is to win the lottery.

We develop all sorts of imaginings and excuses about why it is that we just can’t possibly become famous. These imaginings and excuses are what I call modern day myths about achieving fame.

MYTH: Only highly educated people become famous.

TRUTH: There are homeless people with Ivy League degrees and decades of corporate experience who can’t even get a decent job. Once I even hired a temp employee, (receptionist), who had a Masters from Harvard! Besides, book smarts doesn’t automatically make a person famous. If that were the case, there would be an overabundance of famous folks roaming the earth right now.

MYTH: Only young people can become famous.

TRUTH: Tony Bennett, a famous older singer/crooner, has just made his debut back on the touring circuit. And although he’s at least in his 70’s, if not older, Mr. Bennett is attracting young 20-somethings to his concerts!

MYTH: You have to know the right people in order to become famous.

TRUTH: Initially you don’t. However, I’ll even give you some simple techniques in order to meet the right people if you need to.

MYTH: Being famous means I’ll be hounded night and day by tabloid reporters who want to slander my good name.

TRUTH: Do you ever hear about your favorite bestselling author or the doctor on the television commercial being caught in a scandal? 95% of famous people lead relatively quiet lives outside of their fame. (Now if you choose to involve yourself in a transsexual, multi-million dollar a year heroine drug smuggling operation, I can’t promise you a quiet life!!!)

MYTH: I’m too shy to be famous.

TRUTH: You don’t have to be a world-class speaker in order to be famous. There are plenty of people who are not in the eye of the camera constantly, but who are nonetheless considerably famous.

Ted has always like to learn about new things and then write about them. Read some of his articles here Stovetop Popcorn popper and Mini Ductless Heat Pumps

Online Gallery Question Checklist

When looking for an online art gallery it is a good idea to have some kind of question checklist. Here are some questions you might consider. How much will the gallery cost to run? Is there a commission I have to pay on my art sold? Will I get enough traffic and how much art can I display? Will I be given my own personal art website and biography page? Is it difficult to set up? Can I check my client traffic statistics. Is there a free trial period so I can see if I like the system?

Five Tips for Selling Your Art Online

1. Presentation – Present your art in the most professional way possible. Ideally, showcase your art in an online gallery.

2. Traffic – Even if you have the most beautiful art in the world in your gallery, you will have little success selling your work unless people know where you are. Market your art through free ads, paid ads if you like, pay-per-click ads, blogs, forums and articles. Write “how to” articles about art, which is a great way to generate traffic to your site. Also, have business cards made up and distribute them in as many ways possible.

3. Critiques – Oouch! – If you’re way too sensitive and thinned skinned, get over it. Criticism is one of your best money-making friends. Why? Because you want to find out what people like and don’t like about your art so you can fix it and make your art more salable. Go out of your way to get criticism of your art by asking friends, strangers (safe strangers!), forum groups, art teachers, art professors and even art appraisers if you want to spend the money.

Leonardo da Vinci asked for criticism from a man off the street. He asked the man what he thought of his “Last Supper” painting, which was not yet finished. The man said he really liked the chalice cup. I believe Leonardo readily removed the chalice from the painting because it was not supposed to be the focus of the work. Leonardo was wise enough to appreciate and receive objective criticism which helped finish his masterpiece.

4. Constant Improvement – Creating your art should be a constant learning process, ever improving because the more knowledge you have of the laws and rules of art the better your painting skills, hence greater financial return on your art. To what is needed to improve your artistic eye and skills. Look at great art and try to see why their colors, their lights and darks, shapes and compositions work so well. Take an art class. Read art “how to” books. Grow in your knowledge of what makes great art.

5. Pricing – Too High, Too Low Check out your competition, art similiar to your own work. What are their prices? Get opinions from people about your art pricing. Remember, be thick-skinned for they are only helping you decide on the correct pricing for your art. Test your pricing. If it sells too quickly (how wonderful!), perhaps you could raise the price. If it is not selling, then your pricing is probably too high. Test, test, test. Oh, you might consider having prints made of your originals because it would give you a whole new extra pricing market. Some people would rather pay for a print than to pay more for an original.

So, hopefully the art gallery question checklist and the tips for selling art online will help you get your art selling. Enjoy your divine gift, the unique ability to express yourself through art.

The glossy covers and outrageous titles draw our eyes as we check out at the supermarket. Articles tell us how to lose weight, simplify our lives, and keep us current on important and unimportant regional and world news. This phenomenon is not exclusive to the United States, in fact, the world boasts over 200,000 different magazines, with an enormous diversity in readers and topics of interest. While we see the repeated themes that editors have determined lure readers, some topics are downright strange.

I know peanut allergies have risen dramatically over the last decade, but have you picked up a magazine recently to read about squid sensitivities? A travel magazine can show you where you can sleep in a beagle shaped bedroom. Fitness magazines tout that exercise can help you lose weight, but can make you gain weight as well. Alien sightings have long been popular magazine and tabloid topics, and have now progressed to underwater aliens. There is the newly discovered vegetarian spider. Magazine articles note the hot new trend in furniture made from live shrubbery. Have you read that dogs and babies are some of the newest teaching tools in today’s classrooms? These are just a few of the topics you may not have expected to find in current magazines.

The magazines that ruminate on these topics are as varied as the topics themselves. Marking the aging population of Americans has the surprising largest circulation in the United States. Magazines like Better Homes and Gardens, Sports Illustrated, TV Guide, and Cosmopolitan are top US sellers while some of our national favorites have been also been wildly successful abroad. Readers Digest is the most popular magazine in the world, and is being printed in 19 languages with over 25 million subscribers. National Geographic is constantly broadening its reader base, recently launching National Geographic Kids in Indonesia, for a total of 18 international editions.

While there are magazines that target international markets with universal issues, regional and special interest magazines also abound. The most popular magazine in Asia is a regional small business publication called SME Entrepreneurship Magazine. I won’t venture to guess what local is targeted with some of the more unusual publications, like Varmint Hunter Magazine, or Miniature Donkey Talk. No topic is off limit, with magazines such as Girls and Corpses, a disturbing juxtaposition of young women and skeletal remains, and Modern Drunkard, for “functional alcoholics” who the rest of us might term populations in denial.

The prices of these magazines are as varied as the subjects covered, from free publications to the world’s most expensive magazine, Nomenus Quarterly. Limited edition might be an understatement for this folio of previously unpublished images, with a whopping circulation of 10, at a record-breaking subscription price of $6,500.

So, if you are looking for a magazine subscription on a particular topic, no matter how bizarre, you may just be able to find it! You may be able to read about it in over a dozen languages. If you don’t speak a foreign language, just pick up Mome (French), Kinder (German), or Chicos (Spanish) that are published especially to teach you. An amazing variety of magazines and articles worldwide are waiting to be discovered.
